Constitution Day

 Hello everyone,

Hope you all are fine. I am here with my another blog which is on the topic Samvidhan Divas or Constitution Day

Constitution Day is also known as the 'Samvidhan Divas'. The Constitution of India is the longest written constitution of any sovereign country in the world. Constitution day is celebrated to create awareness of Fundamental Duties as enshrined in the Constitution.

But what is constitution?
Constitution is the basic law or rules of a country or organization.☺
Constitution Day is celebrated in India on November 26, every year to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India.

November 26, which was earlier celebrated as Law Day, marks the day when India had adopted its Constitution back in 1949, more than two years after attaining independence from the British rule. The Constitution came into effect next year on 26 January 1950, so as to commemorate the pledge of Purna Swaraj, passed in the Lahore session of the Congress on this day in 1930.

Constitution Day: History

On 26th November 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution of India, which came into effect from 26th January 1950.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment on November 19, 2015, notified the decision of the Government of India to celebrate the 26th day of November every year as 'Constitution Day' to promote Constitution values among citizens.

Constitution Day: Significance

Dr. B R Ambedkar was a renowned social reformer, politician, and jurist and is also called the Father of the Indian Constitution. He was appointed as the chairman of the constitution drafting committee on August 29, 1947.

He was the one who drafted the Indian Constitution and the year 2015 was the 125th birth anniversary of Ambedkar. Constitution Day of India aims to bring awareness to the importance of the Indian Constitution and its architect, Dr. B R Ambedkar. The declaration regarding the day was made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 11, 2015.

Preamble of the Indian Constitution-

WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC and to secure to all its citizens:

JUSTICE, social, economic, and political;

LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith, and worship;

EQUALITY of status and of opportunity; and to promote among them all

FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation;

IN OUR CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY this 26th day of November 1949, do HEREBY ADOPT, ENACT AND GIVE TO OURSELVES THIS CONSTITUTION.

The Constitution declares India a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic, republic, assuring its citizens' justice, equality, and liberty and endeavors to promote fraternity. The Indian constitution stood the test of time as India has been a successful democracy, unlike many others who had become independent at the same time.
